ESTABLISHED: By resolution of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors on

November 12, 1969.

 

MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the San Mateo County Commission on Aging and Area Agency on Aging, in compliance with the Older Americans Act and the Older California Act, is to maintain, enhance, and improve the quality of life for older adults and adults with disabilities in San Mateo County through the promotion of independence and self-sufficiency, mental and physical health, and social and community involvement.

 

MEMBERSHIP: 21 Commissioners representing a variety of senior issues and organizations.

 

ACTIVITIES: The Commission on Aging sponsors and engages in regional and local activities including:

  • Public needs forums
  • Special events (conference, legislative presentation, educational forums)
  • Review of Older Americans Act funding allocations
  • Development of community-based systems of care
  • Service coordination and activities
  • Older adult awareness activities
  • Advocacy on issues related to older adults and adults with disabilities
  • Planning and development of resources and services where non exist
  • Dialogue with community organinzations to assure the quality and integrity of services
