Program Overview
The Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Program is a state-mandated program that provides health education, grief counseling, and other resources for families and childcare providers after a SIDS death.

Program goals and principles reflect those of the State's SIDS Program:

  • Help reduce the emotional suffering of SIDS families and caregivers
  • Improve the knowledge and skills of people who interact with SIDS familes
  • Increase public awareness and knowledge of SIDS
  • Promote infant care practices to reduce the risk of SIDS
  • Collect and monitor data, and encourage medical research into SIDS

Services Provided

  • SIDS Information Line:  (800) 369-SIDS (7437)  Toll-free within California.
  • Support Services: Bereavement support is provided on a 24-hour basis.
  • Public Awareness and Education
  • Training and Consultation
  • Research

Eligibility and Area Served
Anyone in San Mateo County who may benefit from SIDS bereavement support services and SIDS risk reduction education.
