SAMP (School Aged Mothers Program) SAMP refers to 3 educational programs physically based at Redwood High School (Redwood City), Peninsula High School (San Bruno) and Baden Continuation High School (South San Francisco).  These programs provide continuing education for any pregnant teen, married or unmarried, whether or not she is currently attending school. Public health nurses provide onsite liaison and case management services. On site and free childcare is currently available for eligible infants and toddlers at all three sites, though there is often a waitlist.  Public high school programs were established in 1970 by the State Department of Education for pregnant and parenting high school students in order to help them stay in school. Services: A full time teacher. A public health nurse that provides on site resources and education on nutrition, Medi-Cal, prenatal care, labor and delivery, and care of the newborn baby.  In addition, resources may include housing, food and parenting classes. Eligibility:  To be eligible to enroll, a young parent must reside within the boundaries of the respective school districts (Sequoia, San Mateo or South San Francisco Unified School Districts).  Contacts: Baden High School (South San Francisco) (650) 877-8791 Peninsula High School (San Bruno) Call the San Mateo Unified School District  (650) 558-2299 Redwood High School (Redwood City) (650) 369-1411 x 7246 Cal Learn Cal Learn is a part of the welfare reform movement and provides case management to pregnant and/or parenting teens who lack a high school diploma or equivalent AND receive California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (Cal Works) and are 18 or younger.  Enrollment and eligibility is determined by a social worker in the Human Services Agency. The Cal Learn program helps pregnant and parenting teens to attend and graduate from high school or its equivalent.  It provides bonuses or sanctions for school progress, funds for transportation, and childcare for school attendance or related activities.  Case management is provided by a public health nurse from the teen programs. last updated: 3/29/07
