Investigates situations in which seniors or dependent adults have been subjected to, or are at risk of, abuse, neglect or exploitation.
Provides services to Medi-Cal eligible aged, blind or disabled individuals, including children, which assist them to remain safely in their own homes as an alternative to out-of-home care. The Public Authority maintains a registry of qualified in-home workers and can assist consumers with hiring and supervising workers.

San Mateo County contracts with Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA staff to perform the following services: capture of at-large or stray dogs, rescue of injured animals, pick-up of dead animals from public property, enforcement of leash law and other local ordinances, investigation of dog bites and attacks, euthansia of severely injured animals, as well as other services.

The Mental Health Services serves as the mental health plan for all individuals who are San Mateo County Medi-Cal beneficiaries and provides services to other people with mental illness in San Mateo County. Priority populations include seriously mentally ill adults and children, older adults at risk of institutionalization, children in special education or at risk of out-of-home placement, and people of any age in major crisis. Call the Mental Health ACCESS Team to see if you qualify for services.

  Local and national organizations that provide assistance, support, information and advocacy to mental health clients, families and service providers.

  EMS certifies Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in San Mateo County and conducts written examinations for National Registry of EMTs.
  AEDs are used to restart the heart following a heart attack. California law requires that the purchaser of an AED notify the local EMS Agency. You can complete the form online or download the form and fax it.
  EMS administers the State EMS Fund, providing compensation to local hospitals, physicians and trauma centers to off set the costs of treating persons who are unable to pay for any portion of their emergency treatment. Providers will find payment schedules and policy information on this page.
  Specially trained paramedic will respond to law enforcement Code 2 EMS requests for individuals having a behavioral emergency
  Toxic Programs Protect people from hazardous chemicals that may be released into the environment.
  Water programs ensure the water you drink and play in is safe.
  Food programs keep your food safe to eat.
  Promote sound housing to protect health and safety; help people who have individual water supplies or sewage disposal systems; find potential sources of children's exposure to lead; look into complaints of noise pollution; oversee landfills to ensure public health and safety; and protect the people from disease, discomfort, annoyance, and economic loss from insects and animals.

  Prevents tooth decay in children from preschool through 6th grade through classroom activities and improved access to dental care.
 

Provides medical case management and funding for medical services provided by CCS-approvedspecialists, medical equipments and physical/occupational therapy for children birth to 21 years of age wih chronic medical and handicapping physical conditions. Services are for children who are eligible for Medi-Cal, Healthy Families and other children whose families meet income requirements.

  Coordinates activities designed to reduce childhood injuries.
  Promotes and provides immunizations to children and adults, coordinates with child care centers and schools to assure that students receive the required immunizations for entry.

Nutrition includes the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program, which provides eligible pregnant women, mothers with infants and young children with nutrition counseling, breastfeeding support and food vouchers for nutritious foods, and the California Nutrition Network, which offers nutrition education to low-income communities.
  Strives to reduce the infant deaths and low birth weight babies in the African-American community.
  Information, support, and care for families of pregnant women and children to age five receiving Medi-Cal in San Mateo County.
  Provides case management services to high-risk families, including pregnant and parenting teen programs, the Young Dad's program, and the SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) program.

The Blue Ribbon Task Force on Adult Health Care Coverage Expansion is exploring options for providing comprehensive health access and/or insurance to uninsured adults in San Mateo County living at or below 400% Federal Poverty Level.

The Children's Health Initiative ensures that all children ages 0 through 18 in San Mateo County have access to comprehensive health insurance coverage.

  Lead community taskforces that focus on reducing rates of overweight and obesity in children, use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and linguistic barriers to care in those populations most vulnerable to poorer health outcomes.
The Internship Program is designed to provide work opportunities and practical learning experience for students in order to enhance their academic preparation and expose them to public service at the County level.
UC Cooperative Extension Cooperative Extension is the county-based education and research branch of the University of California's Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Educational programs offered use practical research information to solve community programs.
